There are occasions when it will be appropriated to place an item at multiple locations in your tree. You can place a copy of the item in additional locations by holding the Ctrl key while dragging the item from one place to another. However, your database may become unnecessarily large as a result and more importantly, you will have to maintain information on the item in multiple locations. For example, your highlighting will be different in each version, as will keywords and other metadata. For Notes, snapshots and clippings the content may also have to be kept synchronized. Multi-parenting enables you to place multiple virtual copies of an item in different locations within the tree - each appearing as an icon in the tree and being indistinguishable from the other. In addition, only a single instance is stored in your database. Content editing, highlighting and metadata changes applied to one copy affect all of the other copies simultaneously.
Select the item and hold the Ctrl+Shift keys while dragging the item to another location within the tree. Note: Virtual copies of all items nested beneath the selected item will also be created. When child items of a multiparented item are added, deleted or renamed, these changes are reflected everywhere the multiparented item appears in the navigation tree.
Select an item and copy it to the clipboard. Select a target location and right click to invoke the in-context menu. Select [Paste special] from the menu and the [Link to KW items (Multiparenting)] option.
Open an existing tree item in the browser. Drag the browser tab to the required location in the tree. Select [Multiparent existing item] from the popup menu that appears. Note: the item must already exist somewhere in your tree for this menu item to appear.
