Make an Item Available Offline

For information on making items in a shared repository available offline please see the help section on managing items in a shared repository.  

 

For items in a local repository-

You can make a web item A container for a set of hierarchically structured information elements. These can be URLs to resources on the Internet, files or folders on the local file system. viewable even when you do not have an Internet connection.

  1. Open the properties dialog for the item.

  2. Select the Offline Access tab.

  3. Check the "Make this page available offline" box.

  4. Check the "Synchronize on exit" box to ensure that the page content is downloaded to the web cache when you exit KW.  Otherwise you must manually synchronize.

  5. Choose other offline options as appropriate.

  6. Click [OK].

Working offline

KnowledgeWorkshop automatically detects when an Internet connection is absent and switches into offline mode.  If necessary you can set the program to work in offline mode manually by selecting [Work offline] from the [File] text menu.

Determining if an item is available offline

When offline, the title of items that are set to be available offline appear as dark text in the tree.  Those that are not available offline appear grayed out.  You can display items that are offline in the browser and, if links were made available offline when offline access was configured, you can also navigate around the site.

Synchronizing

You can ensure that you have the latest version of a page available offline by synchronizing The process by which the version of a web page stored on your computer is compared to the current version available on the web site. If a newer version is available from the site it is downloaded to your computer. it with the version available from the web site.  You can set this process to occur automatically when you exit KnowledgeWorkshop by checking the "Synchronize on exit" box in the Offline access property tab.  You can manually start this process at any time by right clicking on the item and selecting [Synchronize] from the menu.

 

Warning!

You will lose access to all of your offline files if you delete your temporary internet files and check the box for "Delete all offline content" during the process.
