When you purchase the software you will receive a license code via e-mail.  To enable full and unrestricted use of the software you must activate the license as described below.

What is product activation and how does it work?
Product activation is a process that combines your license code with unique characteristics of the hardware on your computer to generate an activation code.  This code enables you to run the software on a particular computer and only that computer. 

How does product activation work?
When you start your software you are given the option of activating a license (if you have purchased one) or of registering your use of the software. Registration enables you to use the software free of charge for non-professional purposes, subject to capacity limitations. To use the software for professional purposes or to overcome the capacity limits of the "free" version, it is necessary to purchase and then activate a license. If you choose to activate the software you are required to enter the license code you received when you purchased the product.  You may then choose to activate the software online or via e-mail.  Online activation is a process that occurs automatically in a few seconds but requires that you be connected to the Internet.  E-mail activation generates a message that is sent to us.  A return e-mail will be sent to you containing the activation code which you must then enter manually into the software.

Why is activation required?
Activation is required to prevent illegal copying of software and its distribution to unlicensed users.  It ensures that we get compensated for our effort in producing the software and can provide our loyal customers with the best services possible.

What happens if I don't purchase and activate a license?

If you do not purchase and activate a software license, you may use the software free of charge but only for non-professional purposes, using the registration process (See "Register Software" under the KnowledgeWorkshop Help menu). Use without a license will limit the number of items you can store in KnowledgeWorkshop, but the limit is sufficient for most non-professional and light-use purposes. You can purchase a license from our online store.

Can I activate my software license on more than one computer?
Your license gives you the right to activate it and use the software on a secondary computer at home or on a laptop.  Please see the license FAQ for more details.

Can the activation code be used on more than one computer?

The activation code is unique for each computer and will not work on any computer except the one on which the activation process was executed.

Is any personally identifiable information sent during the activation process?

The activation process does not gather any personally identifiable information about you or your use of the software.

What happens if I have to replace my hard drive or if I get a new computer?
If you are changing computers or your hard drive.
  • Perform a complete backup of all of you KnowledgeWorkshop data and save it on media that can be removed from the computer.
  • Uninstall the software from the old computer.
  • Install the software on your new computer or drive.
  • Import your backup to restore your data.
  • Contact us via this page for information on moving your data and activating the software on the new computer or drive and we will assist you free of charge with the process.
