Items can be added or deleted in a shared repository as they would be in a local repository. A shared repository acts as if it were an extension to the local users tree. However, it is only visible and accessible when the user is connected to the local area network on which the KnowledgeWorkshop shared repository resides. This means that all references to items are relative to each individual users computer and therefore some additional rules apply:
References to items on the Internet can be added as they would normally. When the item is activated by another user that users computer will download the source file from the Internet. Each user's computer must therefore have Internet access to see the resource.
If you are adding a local file to a shared repository you should copy it to the shared repository database i.e. when adding an item to the shared tree choose the "Item will store copy of the content" option. References to local drives will not work unless the folder is shared, in which case the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the share (e.g. \\computername\sharename\filename) should be used. Note: If your computer is offline this share will not be accessible to other users.
References to items on mapped drives may not work as maps are specific to each users computer. If a startup script maps the same drive letter to the same shared resource on all computers the mapping should work.
References to server file shares may also work as long as the FQDN is used and each user has rights to access the share.
